As the Gully/Gaza conflict between Mavado and Vybz Kartel rages on and supporters of each side get personal and at times confrontational, the fastest man on Planet Earth, Usain Bolt jumps into the fray. It had long been suspected that Bolt was a Gaza fan. However, he put all doubt to rest when he made his allegiance known last week at his welcome home party at the Quad night club in New Kingston.
At the end of what was reportedly a Gully segment, Bolt took the mic and announced, "A Gaza time now, and all who don′t like that can jump inna the Gully."
BOLT... has officially been given the mega responsibility of ′Ambassador′ and is soon to be decorated with one of the highest orders of the land
Undoubtedly, this was Bolt at play, but considering the sensitive and divisive nature of the confrontation between the two camps, and also considering that role model Bolt has officially been given the mega responsibility of ′Ambassador′ and is soon to be decorated with one of the highest orders of the land, then the statement takes on a different level of irresponsibility.
Some would say that Bolt should be brokering peace and promoting unity between the two camps, but then again he is just a youngster, a dancehall aficiando, and a Kartel fan who was at the Quad, doing what he likes best. Bolt, without apology, is known as a party animal and his ′nuh linga′ and ′no behaviour′ dance moves on the world stage have only added to his lustre and distinction. And his endorsement of the Gaza within the walls of the Quad really isn′t such a surprise; he was just being Usain, the dancehall fan, not ′Ambassador-at-large′ Usain Bolt soon-to-be-OJ.
But, should he be allowed to leave all ambassadorial duties and other officialdom outside the doors of the Quad as he parties the night away and pick them out on his way out?
